Vanden Avond Selected to NSCAA Scholar All-Amerca First Team

DE PERE - St. Norbert College women's soccer senior forward Katie Vanden Avond has been named to the first team of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America NCAA Division III, NAIA and NCCAA Scholar All-America Team.

Vanden Avond, who was a second-team All-America selection by the NSCAA this season, also earned her second first-team CoSIDA Academic All-America honor in November. Fourteen players were named to the first team, which encompasses all schools from the Division III, NAIA and NCCAA affiliations. Vanden Avond was the only Midwest Conference student-athlete represented.

Vanden Avond, a De Pere native, carries a 3.50 grade point average while majoring in communications. Vanden Avond, the NCAA Division III career leader in goals with 130, was a four-time first-team All-Midwest Conference selection. Vanden Avond finished the 2015 season with 39 goals and four assists for 82 points and led Division III this season in goals and points.

Vanden Avond, who also led Division III in goals in 2011 and 2013, is a three-time Midwest Conference Offensive Player of the Year (2011, 2012, 2013) and is a Dean's List student. In 78 career games, Vanden Avond finished with 130 goals and 21 assists for 281 points.

To be named to the NSCAA Scholar All-America Team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale throughout his or her career, start more than 50 percent of all games and be a significant contributor to the team and be nominated by an institution that is a current NSCAA College Services member.
