Green Knights Push MWC Winning Streak to 49 in Rout of Cornell

DE PERE - St. Norbert College extending its record winning streak against Midwest Conference opponents to 49 with a decisive 79-46 decision over Cornell College at Schuldes Sports Center.

The Green Knights (7-1, 5-0 MWC), ranked No. 23 in the D3hoops.com Top 25, shot 51.7 percent from the field, making 30 of 58 field-goal attempts.

Cornell (2-7, 1-4) held an early 11-5 just over 5 1/2 minutes into the game, forcing St. Norbert to call a timeout. The Green Knights went on an 8-0 run to take a brief 13-11 lead, but the Rams still held an 18-17 edge moments later on an Austin Dyer hoop with 8:34 left in the period.

From there St. Norbert took firm control, closing out the half on a 23-2 run. Seth Taylor started the run with a 3-pointer and had eight points during the run. D.J. DeValk's conventional three-point play with 4:24 left in the half put the Green Knights ahead 28-18. Taylor's hoop with 32 seconds left sent the Green Knights into halftime with a 40-20 lead.

St. Norbert salted the game away with a 13-4 run to open the second half. DeValk opened the half with a 3-pointer and Terrence Garner had an impressive tip dunk off a missed shot to fuel the spurt, which saw the Green Knights lead 53-24 with 15:29 to play.

Taylor led the Green Knights with 17 points and six rebounds. DeValk and Tim Marshall both had 12 points apiece, with DeValk adding six assists.

Grant Anderson was the only Cornell player to reach double figures with 16 points. The Rams shot 34.0 percent (17-for-50) from the floor.
