Green Knights to Host Northwestern in NCAA Tournament Opener

DE PERE - St. Norbert College will host the University of Northwestern-St. Paul in its first-round NCAA Division III Central Regional Tournament game Friday at Schuldes Sports Center in De Pere.

St. Norbert (23-2) will face the Eagles (22-5) at 7:30 p.m. Friday. North Central College (19-7) will play St. Olaf College (18-9) in the regional's first game at 5 p.m. Friday. Saturday's championship game is set for 7 p.m.

The Green Knights are hosting an NCAA Division III Tournament game for the second consecutive season and the third time overall, all coming since 2002.

St. Norbert is making its sixth NCAA Division III Tournament appearance in seven years and its eighth overall. The Green Knights won the Midwest Conference regular-season and tournament championships and carry a 14-game winning streak into the NCAA Tournament. St. Norbert, which lost a triple-overtime decision to Elmhurst College in the first round of last year's NCAA Tournament, is 3-7 all-time in the tournament.

Northwestern is making its sixth consecutive NCAA Division III Tournament appearance playing out of the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference and is 2-5 all-time in the tournament. The Eagles also played in last year's NCAA Regional at St. Norbert, defeating the University of St. Thomas and Elmhurst to advance to the Sweet 16.

North Central, of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin, is making its eighth overall NCAA Division III Tournament appearance and its first trip since 2013, and is 8-8 all-time in the tournament. St. Olaf, of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, is making its third consecutive and overall NCAA Division III Tournament appearance and is 2-2 all-time in the tournament.
