Power Play Feast Paces Green Knights

GREEN BAY - St. Norbert College scored all five of its goals on the power play en route to a 5-1 non-conference win over St. John's University at the Cornerstone Community Center.

The Green Knights improved their unbeaten streak to 34 games with the win, and are now 5-0 on the season. St. John's fell to 1-3.

St. Norbert put up three power-play goals in the first period, all while cashing in on a five-minute major checking from behind call against the Johnnies' James Olmscheid.

Ryan Petersen scored his first goal of the season at 9:43 of the first, getting assists from Alain Joanette and Steven Sleep. A.J. Gale tallied his fourth marker of the year a minute and a half later, knocking home a rebound off an initial Nick Tabisz shot. Petersen then finished off the power play with his second score off assists from Dustin Dubas and Sleep at 12:12.

After a scoreless second period, St. Norbert didn't waste much time pushing the lead to 4-0. Scott Pulak scored 15 seconds into the third period, ringing a power-play shot in off the post for his first score of the year. Pulak scored again on the power play when he knocked home a rebound at 4:44 of the third off assists from Wheeler and Tabisz.

St. John's would get its only goal of the game when Chris Murray scored at the 9:11 mark of the third.

St. Norbert outshot St. John's 32-27. The Green Knights were a robust 5-for-10 on the power play, while the Johnnies were 0-for-6.

B.J. O'Brien made 26 saves for the Green Knights. Vince Wheeler went the first 44:44 for the Johnnies, making 20 stops. Stu Van Ess finished up, making seven saves in the final 15:16.
