Green Knights Can't Hold On Against Grinnell

DE PERE - St. Norbert College took a one-run lead into the ninth inning but couldn't hold it as the Green Knights saw their season come to an end in an 11-8 loss to Grinnell College in an elimination game at the Midwest Conference Tournament at Larry Van Alstine Field at Mel Nicks Sports Complex.

The Green Knights (20-17) were nursing an 8-7 lead into the ninth inning before the Pioneers scored four runs on four hits to take the victory.

St. Norbert fell behind early when Grinnell scored four runs in the top of the first inning, three coming on a three-run home run by Matt Godinsky. The Green Knights answered with single runs in the first and second innings, scoring on an RBI singles by Sean Grant and Derek Klegin.

Grinnell got a run back in the fourth inning but the Green Knights rallied again with a run in the fifth inning on a Tyler Banovich sacrifice fly. St. Norbert scored four runs in the sixth inning to take a 7-5 lead, with Hunter Larson's two-run single pushing the Green Knights out front.

Grinnell retied the game in the top of the sevneth inning on a two-run home run by Matt Hammond. St. Norbert pulled ahead 8-7 with a run in the bottom of the eighth inning on a two-out RBI single by Banovich.

Both teams had 14 hits. Klegin and Larson were both 3-for-4, while Banoich was 2-for-4. Grant and Robbie Dombrowski were both 2-for-5.

Eric Feldner took the loss in relief, allowing five hits and four runs in 2 2/3 innings pitched.
