Fast Start Lifts Green Knights In Season Opener

HOWARDS GROVE - St. Norbert College scored three goals in the first 13 minutes of the match and used it as the impetus behind a 7-1 non-conference win over Lakeland University to open the 2016 season.

Tyler Kassube (ninth minute), Ben Prange (tenth minute) and Sam Lamers (13th minute) all scored early to put the Green Knights ahead 3-0. Joe Fabich scored in the 27th minute, while Jon Gregory added a goal in the 34th minute to send St. Norbert to a 5-0 halftime lead.

Lakeland got a goal back when Renan Asato completed a penalty kick in the 56th minute, but St. Norbert would close out the scoring with goals by Michael DeGroot in the 66th minute and Brandon DiOrio in the 79th minute.

Kassube, Prange and Lamers all added assists to give all three a three-point game.

St. Norbert outshot Lakeland 18-4 and held a commanding 12-0 advantage in corner kicks. Sam Lisheron played the first 65 minutes while Josh Koleske finished up in the last 25 minutes to combine for the win in goal for the Green Knights. Thomis Mannebach made five saves for the Muskies.
