St. Norbert Shuts Down Aurora In Win

DE PERE - St. Norbert College faced Aurora University in the first game of a two-game Northern Collegiate Hockey Association series at the Cornerstone Community Center, beating the Spartans 2-0.

The Green Knights (4-1, 4-1 NCHA), ranked No. 3 in the USCHO.com Division III Poll, battled with the Spartans to a 0-0 tie after the first period. In the second period, St. Norbert scored the first goal of the game at the 8:23 mark, finished by Pijus Rulevicius for his first goal of the season.

The Green Knights held the one-goal lead heading into the third period, but Blake Thompson extended the lead with a 4-on-3 power-play goal at the 10:21 mark for a 2-0 edge. It was also his first goal of the season.

St. Norbert finished the game 1-for-8 on power plays, while Aurora failed to convert on any of its seven power plays. The teams accounted for 17 combined penalties.

Dominick Sacco led the Green Knights with two assists for a multi-point game, while Tanner Froese and Luke Karakas each added an assist.

The Green Knights allowed only five Aurora shots on goal, a new St. Norbert record. The Green Knights finished with 37 shots on goal.

T.J. Black had his third straight shutout to start the season and extended his consecutive scoreless sequence to 204 minutes and 47 seconds. Black made all five saves, while his Aurora counterpart Hunter Vorva had 35 saves on the night.
