Green Knights Can't Rally at Cornell

DE PERE - St. Norbert College fell behind early and couldn't rally in a 70-59 loss to Cornell College in a Midwest Conference game at Small Multi-Sport Center.

The Green Knights (3-4, 2-2 MWC) never led in the game. Cornell's Sierra Bisso canned a 3-pointer seven second into the game and led the Rams from there, scoring 31 points.

Cornell went on a 8-2 run over the last two minutes of the first quarter to take a 19-12 lead after the first 10 minutes. The Green Knights trailed by 12 points early in the second quarter and worked their way back to a 31-25 deficit with 2:10 left in the period, but the Rams scored the six of the last eight points to lead 37-27 at intermission.

St. Norbert trailed 52-43 after the third period but scored the first five points of the fourth quarter to get within 52-48 with 8:55 left after a 3-pointer and a pair of free throws by Jill Kleiman. But Cornell would go on a decisive 8-0 run to take a 60-48 lead with 6:42 left to decide the outcome.

The Green Knights shot 34.0 percent from the floor, making 18 of 53 field-goal attempts. Kleiman led the Green Knights with 16 points, while Brianna Byrne added 15 points - leaving her six shy of 1,000 for her career.

Cornell shot 39.6 percent (21-for-53) from the floor and was a blistering 13-for-26 (50.0 percent) from beyond the three-point arc. Bisso, who was 7-for-12 from beyond the arc, added five steals with her 31 points. Haley Grana added 14 points for the Rams.
