The Beat Goes On as Green Knights Top Rams

MOUNT VERNON, Iowa - St. Norbert College extended its winning streak against Midwest Conference opponents to 68 with a 66-58 win over Cornell College at Small Multi-Sport Center.

The Green Knights saw a 14-point second-half lead melt to two points but ended up holding off the Rams down the stretch to claim the win.

St. Norbert (5-1, 4-0 MWC), ranked No. 8 in the D3hoops.com Top 25, led 38-24 with 13:06 remaining. Cornell went on a 14-2 run to get to within 40-38 with 10:41 to go after a Brad Hund basket. St. Norbert answered with baskets by Ben Bobinski and D.J. DeValk to lead 44-38 with 8:52 remaining, but Cornell cut it to 44-42 with 7:17 to go on a Grant Anderson 3-pointer.

DeValk canned a 3-pointer with 5:47 left to give St. Norbert a 49-43 cushion. Corey Davis made a pair of free throws for Cornell, but Bobinski followed with a layup and 3-pointer on St. Norbert's next two possessions for a 54-45 edge with 4:33 left. The Green Knights never led by less than five points the rest of the game.

In the first half, St. Norbert led 19-10 with 13:06 left but neither team scored for nearly the next five minutes. Terrence Garner broke the drought with a hoop at 8:21, but the Green Knights didn't score again until Brian Luteyn's jumper at 6:03 for a 23-10 edge. St. Norbert settled on a 28-18 lead at halftime.

St. Norbert shot 41.5 percent (22-for-53) from the floor. Bobinski finished with 22 points while DeValk added 20 points and Garner 12.

Cornell shot 42.6 percent (20-for-46) from the floor. Anderson and Davis led the Rams with 12 points apiece.
