St. Norbert Picks Up Key Win Over Grinnell

GREEN BAY -- St. Norbert College picked up a big win in the Midwest Conference race when it posted a 54-35 win over Grinnell College at UW-Green Bay's Kress Events Center.

The Green Knights (7-4, 4-2 MWC) entered the game tied with Grinnell (5-6, 3-3) and Knox College as part of a three-way tie for third place in the MWC standings. St. Norbert improved to 34-0 all-time against Grinnell.

St. Norbert opened up a 26-12 halftime lead, holding the Pioneers to six points apiece in each of the first two quarters. The Green Knights led 7-4 early before going on a 7-0 run on a pair of Jelena Ostojic baskets and a conventional three-point play by Christine Olijnyk to take a 14-4 edge with 2:58 left in the first quarter.

Grinnell cut the deficit to 14-10 early in the second quarter before St. Norbert responded, taking a 19-10 lead on a Jill Kleiman 3-pointer. Regan Carmichael's 3-pointer with 1:20 left in the period gave the Green Knights a 26-12 lead at intermission.

St. Norbert scored the first seven points if the third quarter to effectively put the game out of the reach of the Pioneers. Carmichael opened the half with a layup, and Brianna Byrne followed with a basket. Carmichael's 3-pointer with 7:11 left in the period put the Green Knights ahead 33-12.

St. Norbert shot 38.0 percent (19-for-50) from the floor. Byrne led the Green Knights with 13 points, while Carmichael added 12 points and six rebounds. Kleiman finished with nine points and a career-high 11 rebounds.

Grinnell finished with 25.6 percent marksmanship from the field, making 11 of 43 field-goal attempts. Lydia Stariha and Kayla Morrissey led the Pioneers with eight points apiece.
