St. Norbert Bounces Back Against Northland

DE PERE - St. Norbert College took on Northland College in the first game of a two-game Northern Collegiate Hockey Association series the Cornerstone Community Center. The Green Knights remained unbeaten all-time against the Lumberjacks in a decisive 5-1 victory.

The Green Knights (15-4-1, 11-3-1 NCHA), ranked No. 3 in the USCHO.com poll and No. 4 in the D3hockey.com poll, found themselves in a low-scoring first period. Neither team scored until the 17:59 mark of the first period, when Dominic Sacco put in a short distance power-play goal to give St. Norbert a 1-0 lead. It was his fifth goal of the year.

St. Norbert doubled its lead at the 7:53 mark of the second period thanks to a Chris Rygus shot, his third goal of the season. The goal held up for a 2-0 lead going into the third period.

The Green Knights added on to their lead relatively quickly in the third period, with a Roman Uchyn shot at the 4:48 mark, his ninth marker of the year. Riley Christensen later capitalized on a 5-on-3 power play at the 8:40 mark with his sixth goal of the season. Northland avoided suffering the shutout with a Kalib Ford goal at the 18:07 mark. Kurt Black added on another goal for the Green Knights at 19:00 in the third period, his third of the year.

St. Norbert was 2-for-8 on the power plays while Northland was 0-for-5.

Uchyn had a goal and an assist for two points, while Sean Campbell had two assists for the Green Knights' second multi-point game.

St. Norbert outshot Northland by a 42-19 margin in a dominating effort. T.J. Black had 18 saves in the win, while A.J. Smith had 37 saves in a losing effort for the Lumberjacks.
