St. Norbert Pulls Away From Monmouth

MONMOUTH, Ill. - St. Norbert College used a big third quarter to break open a 10-point halftime lead to claim a 77-54 win over Monmouth College in a Midwest Conference game at Glennie Gym.

The Green Knights (14-5, 11-3 MWC) held a 37-27 halftime lead before outscoring Monmouth 23-11 in the third quarter.

St. Norbert never trailed as the Green Knights led from start to finish. Carley Frauenhoff's 3-pointer put the Green Knights ahead 18-13 after the first quarter.

Monmouth trailed 26-22 with 6:47 left in the second quarter before St. Norbert went on a quick 5-0 run. Brianna Byrne and Regan Carmichael canned jumpers, while Sarah Ratajczyk split a pair of free throws. Monmouth's Yvonne Ornelas hit a 3-pointer, but Mallory Nickerson followed with a hoop. Christine Olijnyk then converted a conventional three-point play for a 36-25 lead before the Green Knights settled on a 37-27 halftime edge.

St. Norbert held a 49-34 lead with 3:24 left in the third quarter, but Nickerson converted a conventional three-point play of her own for an 18-point edge. Jelena Ostojic's basket with 2:30 left in the period gave the Green Knights their first 20-point lead.

The Green Knights led 60-38 after three quarters and never led by less than 21 points in the fourth quarter.

St. Norbert shot 48.4 percent (30-for-62) from the floor and outrebounded the Fighting Scots 41-27. Carmichael led St. Norbert with 18 points, while Nickerson added 14 points and Ratajczyk 13 points.

Monmouth shot 36.4 percent (19-for-52) from the floor. Keri Dodson led the Fighting Scots with 16 points.
