St. Norbert Blanks St. Scholastica

DE PERE - St. Norbert College scored a pair of third-period goals to claim a crucial 2-0 win over College of St. Scholastica in a Northern Collegiate Hockey Association game at Cornerstone Community Center.

The Green Knights (17-4-1, 13-3-1 NCHA) moved five points ahead of St. Scholastica (12-9-1, 10-6-1) in the NCHA's North Division standings with three games remaining. The North Division champion gets a first-round by in the NCHA Harris Cup Playoffs.

Despite holding a 26-7 shots advantage after two periods, St. Norbert goaltender T.J. Black and St. Scholastica netminder Zane Steeves were locked in a scoreless stalemate.

St. Norbert broke through at the 3:26 mark of the third period, when Ross Pavek redirected Alfred Johansson's shot from the point for the game's first goal. Luke Karakas also assisted.

The Green Knights scored an insurance goal just 1:32 later when Dominic Sacco scored on a one-time chance from out front off assists from Tanner Froese and Kurt Black.

T.J. Black turned away all 13 shots he faced for his NCAA Division III-leading fifth shutout of the season.

St. Norbert was 0-for-5 on the power play, while St. Scholastica was 0-for-3.

Steeves made 32 saves for the Fighting Saints.
