St. Norbert in Second Place After First Day at MWC Indoors

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. - St. Norbert College is in second place after the first day of competition at the Midwest Conference Indoor Track and Field Championship at Illinois College's King Field House.

The Green Knights have 49 points through seven events to trail first-place Monmouth College's 62 points. Cornell College is five points behind St. Norbert with 44 points.

St. Norbert picked up a pair of conference championships in the 4x200-meter relay and the 1,600-meter sprint medley.

Jon Gregory, Ryan Grandlic, Michael DeGroot and Colin O'Brien won the 4x200 in a time of 1:30.21. Gregory, Grandlic, Tyler Lewis and Andrew Brath won the sprint medley with a time of 3:36.31.

The Green Knights had three of the top six finishers in the pole vault. Max Schermacher was third with a height of 13 feet 11 3/4 inches, while Frank Scandin was fourth clearing the same height on more attempts. Tristin Marx was sixth, also at 13-11 3/4, also on attempts.

Dominic DiBenedetto finished fourth in the shot put at 47-5 1/4. Kevin Schlichter was fifth in the long jump at 20-7 1/4, followed by Tyler Lemens in sixth place at 20-6 1/2 and Travis Heschke in seventh place at 20-5 3/4.

Ben Behling finished eighth in the 1-mile run with a time of 4:38.20.
