Green Knights Close Out Florida Trip With Pair of Heartbreakers

KISSIMMEE, Fla. - St. Norbert College held late leads in both of its games on its final day in Florida but couldn't hold on in an 8-5 loss to SUNY-Cortland and a 5-4 eight-inning setback to McDaniel College.

The Green Knights (1-7) forged a 5-3 lead on Cortland but the Red Dragons scored five runs on five hits in the top of the seventh to get the win.

Cortland took a 3-0 lead with one run in the first and two runs in the second inning. The Green Knights answered with a run in the fourth inning when Amy McBride was hit with the bases loaded to force in a run.

St. Norbert pushed ahead with a four-run fifth inning. Amanda Diedrich's single drove in Randi Morack. Leigh Grall then followed later in the inning with a three-run double for a 5-3 lead.

The Green Knights had seven hits, with Grall going 3-for-4 with three RBIs. Sydney Pfotenhauer took the complete-game loss, allowing 12 hits.

Against McDaniel, St. Norbert scored two runs in the eighth inning to take a 4-2 lead. Maria Reiter scored on a throwing error and Grall's sacrifice fly brought home Tia Danforth. But the Green Terror responded with three runs on three hits in the bottom of the frame, with the game ending on Carly Deichman's squeeze bunt single.

St. Norbert scored twice in the fourth inning, with Grall and Lexy Campshure registering RBI singles.

The Green Knights finished with five hits, with Grall going 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Pfotenhauer took the loss, allowing seven hits with one walk and one strikeout in a complete-game effort.
