WHITEWATER - St. Norbert College hung tough with UW-Whitewater but fell 4-2 in a first-round game of the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional at Prucha Field at Miller Stadium.

The Green Knights (30-12) allowed three first-inning runs to the Warhawks (36-7), ranked No. 3 in the D3baseball.com Top 25. With the loss, St. Norbert will face College of St. Scholastica in an elimination game at 10 a.m. Friday.

Whitewater got the early jump by getting its three runs on three doubles and a fielder's choice in the bottom of the first inning.

St. Norbert scored a run in the third inning when Sean Ferraro reached on an error. With two out, Tyler Banovich's single to center brought around Ferraro for the Green Knights' first run.

The Green Knights pulled to within 3-2 when Robbie Dombrowski led off the top of the fourth inning with a solo home run.

Whitewater would get a run back when Cal Aldridge singled with two outs to score Kevin White.

St. Norbert would get runners on base in each of the last four innings but couldn't generate a run.

A trio of Whitewater pitchers held St. Norbert to five hits, with Dombrowski's circuit clout the only extra-base hit.

Jake McMahon took the loss, scattering 10 hits with one walk and four strikeouts in 7 1/3 innings pitched.
