Green Knights Open Season With Split

APPLETON - St. Norbert College opened the 2017-18 season by splitting a pair of dual matches, topping Lawrence University 9-0 in a Midwest Conference match before falling 9-0 to UW-La Crosse in a non-conference affair. Both matches were held at Lawrence courts.
The Green Knights swept the three doubles points against Lawrence, getting a 9-7 win by Meg Witt and Sofie Koppmann over Lindsay Holsen and Katie Nottberg at No. 1. Jordyn Lawatsch and Lauren Paulson topped Annie Harincar and El Goblirsch 8-2 at No. 2, while Claire Hetzel and Stephanie Doerfert beat Alexis Shannon and Tillie Teske 8-3 at No. 3.
Doerfert blanked Lindsey Lucas 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6 singles. Lawatsch topped Holsen 6-4, 6-0 at No. 1, followed by a 6-1, 6-2 win for Witt over Harincar 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2.
Paulson defeated Nottberg 6-1, 7-5 at No. 3, while Hetzel defeated Goblirsch 6-3, 6-1 at No. 4. Koppmann finished with a 6-0, 7-5 triumph over Shannon at No. 5.
Against La Crosse, St. Norbert lost three tiebreakers in singles matches. Paulson fell to Sadie Spahn 7-6 (7-1, 6-0) at No. 3. Tayler Garves beat Koppmann 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 at No. 5, while Alaina Bublitz beat Doerfert 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) at No. 6.
