St. Norbert Trips Lawrence

DE PERE - St. Norbert College got third-period goals from a pair of freshmen as the Green Knights earned a 3-2 win over Lawrence University in a Northern Collegiate Hockey Association game at Appleton Family Ice Center.

The Green Knights (8-0-1, 5-0 NCHA) snapped a 1-1 tie with two third-period goals from newcomers Timmy Nicksic and William Yates, improving to 4-0 this season in one-goal games.

Lawrence got the early lead when Lane King scored a power-play marker at 5:44 of the first period, but the Green Knights would pull even by the end of the period after Riley Christensen's first goal of the season coming at 18:33.

St. Norbert had about nine minutes of power-play time in the second period - including a five-minute major chance - but couldn't score in the middle period despite a 15-5 shots edge.

The Green Knights broke through at 4:32 of the second period when Nicksic registered his first collegiate goal and a 2-1 lead. St. Norbert picked up a valuable insurance goal at 13:52 when William Yates scored his first collegiate marker. Lawrence would cut into its deficit on a Nick Felan power-play, extra-attacker goal at 18:33, but the Vikings would get no closer.

St. Norbert outshot Lawrence 34-17. T.J. Black made 15 saves for the Green Knights, and also recorded an assist on Yates' goal. Evan Cline made 31 stops for the Vikings.

The Green Knights were 0-for-7 on the power play, while the Vikings were 2-for-5.
