DE PERE - St. Norbert College junior kicker Spenser Thompson-Meyers has been named a first-team All-America selection on the American Football Coaches Association NCAA Division III All-America team.
Thompson-Meyers, a San Ramon, Calif., native, is St. Norbert's seventh AFCA All-America selection since 2000. It is the first All-America honor overall for Thompson-Meyers.
Thompson-Meyers finished the season 13-for-17 on field-goal attempts, and was 12-for-13 on tries inside 50 yards. His St. Norbert-record 55-yard field goal against Grinnell College on Sept. 23 tied for the longest made field goal in Division III this season, while his 49-yard mark against Beloit on Nov. 4 tied for the 11th longest. Thompson-Meyers also kicked off 60 times for an average of 61.2 yards per kickoff, which included 21 touchbacks.
His 13 field goals this seasons is also a St. Norbert record, while his 25 career field goals is one short of Randy Hill's St. Norbert record of 26. Thompson-Meyers was a first-team All-Midwest Conference selection for the third consecutive season.
Thompson-Meyers joins Bob Forstrom (2006) as St. Norbert kickers who have been first-team AFCA All-Americans. Other football players honored by the AFCA were linebacker Jerimiah Janssen (2000 and 2001), offensive tackle Kevin O'Malley (2002), defensive back Joe Masciopinto (2003) and defensive back Frank Laterza (2015).
