DE PERE - St. Norbert College advanced to the NCAA Division III Frozen Four for a record 12th time following a 5-2 win over Augsburg University in a national quarterfinal game at Cornerstone Community Center.

The Green Knights (25-4-1) will face Colby College (17-10-2) in a national semifinal at 6:30 p.m. EDT Friday at Herb Brooks Arena in Lake Placid, N.Y. St. Norbert is playing in the Frozen Four for the fifth time in Lake Placid and the 12th time overall, matching the most in Division III history with Norwich University. Salve Regina University and UW-Stevens Point also join the field at the Frozen Four.

St. Norbert advanced after topping Augsburg (19-10) in the national quarterfinals for the third consecutive season and also ran its active winning streak to 10 consecutive games.

The Green Knights got the jump early, taking a 2-0 lead in the first period. Luke Karakas' shot from the left slot beat Augsburg netminder Nick Schmit off a pad and through the five-hole for a marker at 6:25. St. Norbert doubled its lead when a pass from the near wall found its way to Chris Rygus, who was all alone in the high right slot. Rygus unloaded a one-timed tracer to score at 14:53.

St. Norbert took a 3-0 lead when Peter Bates scored a power-play goal just 28 seconds into the second period. The Auggies would come storming back, capitalizing on a defensive miscue for a goal by Chandler Madry at 3:11. Augsburg's Luke Dietsch would bring his squad within one goal when he finished a rebound chance at 8:44. The Auggies had a pair of golden opportunities later in the period to pull even, but St. Norbert goaltender T.J. Black turned away a pair of breakaway chances to send the Green Knights into intermission with a 3-2 lead.

The Green Knights finally gained some breathing room back midway through the third period, when Timmy Nicksic was credited with a goal at the 11:04 mark. Keegan Milligan's empty-net goal with 1:15 remaining closed out the scoring.

Dominick Sacco finished with three assists, while Alfred Johansson added two assists. Nicksic also had an assist for a two-point game.

St. Norbert outshot Augsburg 36-25, including 13-5 in the third period. Black made 23 saves for the Green Knights, while Schmit turned away 31 shots for the Auggies.

St. Norbert was 1-for-3 on the power play, while Augsburg was 0-for-2.
