Prange Ties Career Goals Mark In Win Over Knox

GALESBURG, Ill. - St. Norbert College moved into sole possession of first place in the Midwest Conference with a key 3-1 win over Knox College at Jorge Prats Field.

St. Norbert junior forward Ben Prange scored two goals to up his career total to 45, tying the school career record. Prange's 45 markers ties Tyler Merkatoris, who played from 2002-05.

The Green Knights (9-0-1, 3-0 MWC), ranked No. 23 in the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division III Poll, are the last unbeaten, untied team in the MWC just three games into the nine-game schedule. St. Norbert currently leads Cornell College (2-0-1) by two points in the standings, while Knox, Grinnell College and Lake Forest College are all 2-1.

Knox (7-3-1, 2-1 MWC) scored early on a goal by Nick Janulis at the 16 minutes 19 seconds mark. St. Norbert answered nearly five minutes later when Prange took a pass from Max Censky to finish at 21:11. The two teams took a 1-1 tie into intermission.

Prange, tied for the Division III lead in goals scored entering the weekend, converted for the 16th time this season when he finished a header off a corner from Dominic DeMaria at 69:36. The Green Knights salted the win away when Mitchell Scholz chased down a ball near the end line and served it back to DeMaria, who one-timed it into the cage at 76:18. It was DeMaria's fourth goal of the season.

St. Norbert, the top-scoring team in Division III entering the weekend at 4.8 goals per game, outshot Knox 9-7 and had heavy pressure to hold an 8-1 nod in corner kicks. Josh Koleske made one save for the Green Knights, while Justin Dunn turned away three shots for the Prairie Fire.
