Green Knights Open Season With Shutout

DE PERE - St. Norbert College got its 2018-19 season off to a good start with a 5-0 win over Milwaukee School of Engineering in a non-conference game at Cornerstone Community Center.

The Green Knights, who raised their fifth NCAA Division III national championship banner before the game, are ranked No. 1 in the USCHO.com and D3hockey.com pre-season polls. The victory marked St. Norbert's 13th consecutive win dating back to last season.

St. Norbert didn't waste much time taking command, getting goal just 3 minutes 27 seconds into the game on a backhand finish by Kurt Black. Peyton Frantti followed with his first collegiate goal at 17:47 to send the Green Knights into first intermission with a 2-0 lead.

The Green Knights added to their lead when Roman Uchyn finished a power-play goal at 6:52 of the second period. Riley Christensen potted another goal when he scored at 15:47 and a 4-0 lead after two periods.

Brendon Gysbers also registered his first collegiate goal with a marker at 14:17 of the third period.

Peter Bates had two assists, while Frantti and Gysbers added assists for multi-point games.

T.J. Black made 14 saves in goal for the Green Knights to register the 13th shutout of his career. Rock Boynton made 31 stops for the Raiders.

St. Norbert, which outshot MSOE 36-14, was 1-for-4 on the power play. The Raiders were 0-for-3 with a man advantage.
