St. Norbert Routs Beloit

BELOIT - St. Norbert College prepared for its looming battle in the Midwest Conference Championship Game by finishing out MWC North Division Play with a 60-0 win over Beloit College at Strong Stadium.

The Green Knights (8-1, 5-0 MWC North) will face Monmouth College (8-1, 5-0 MWC South) at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10 at Schneider Stadium in De Pere for the league championship and a berth in the NCAA Division III Playoffs.

St. Norbert wasted little time taking control of the Buccaneers, forcing a fumble on the second play from scrimmage. The Green Knights' first offensive play resulted in a touchdown, with a short pass from Drew Rhodes to Samuel Staehling rupturing into a 29-yard score. Staehling scored again on St. Norbert's next series, gaining a touchdown on an 8-yard run. The Green Knights took a 20-0 lead at the end of the first quarter on a 3-yard touchdown run by Brandon Dudley.

Matt Galanopoulos scored from 34 yards out early in the second quarter, and the Green Knights added a safety after a blocked punt later in the period to carry a 29-0 lead into halftime.

St. Norbert opened the third quarter with an 11-play, 60-yard drive, capped off by a 2-yard touchdown run by Nate Ihlenfeldt. Sean Ferraro scored from 14 yards out on the Green Knights' next series. Spenser Thompson-Meyers then boomed a 50-yard field goal with 12 seconds left in the third quarter for a 46-0 lead.

Another blocked punt set up another 3-yard touchdown run by Dudley. Ferraro scored from three yards out on the next series to close out the scoring.

St. Norbert outgained Beloit 520-147 and had 328 rushing yards. Rhodes completed 17 of 24 passes for 183 yards and one touchdown while also rushing 12 times for 113 yards. Dudley finished with 96 yards on 12 carries with two touchdowns. Drew Chevarria caught four passes for 48 yards.

Joey Werner led Beloit with 101 yards rushing on 34 carries. Erick Mitchell completed 6 of 23 passes for 62 yards and one interception.

Matt Barrett led the St. Norbert defense with 14 tackles and a forced fumble. Kordell Draves added seven tackles. Walter McBride had a fumble recovery and Hunter Prokash one interception.
