Green Knights Fall in MWC Tournament Championship Game

DE PERE - The clock ran out on the 2018-19 St. Norbert College men's basketball season with a 68-64 loss to Lake Forest College in the championship game of the Midwest Conference Tournament at Mulva Family Fitness & Sports Center.

The Foresters outscored the Green Knights 8-2 over the final four minutes of the game to erase a 62-60 deficit and clinch the MWC's automatic berth into the NCAA Division III Tournament.

St. Norbert held a 53-47 lead with 8:54 to play after Wade Geenen canned consecutive three-point field goals. The Foresters promptly answered with a pair of conventional three-point plays from Jordan Moran to start an 11-0 run. Lake Forest eventually led 58-53 with 6:03 to go before St. Norbert went on a 7-0 run, finished by a Geenen hoop for a 60-58 lead.

Nolan Beirne's two free throws gave St. Norbert a 62-60 lead with 4:07 to play, but Danny Sotos' 3-pointer put the Foresters back ahead by a point. Following a Lake Forest free throw, Jared Murphy's jumper knotted the score at 64-64 with 2:48 left, but the Green Knights would not score again.

St. Norbert shot 43.6 percent (24-for-55) from the floor. Geenen led the Green Knights with 18 points, while Murphy added 12 points and Joe Ciriacks 11 points.

Lake Forest shot 41.4 percent (24-for-58) from the field. Sotos and Sean Espinosa led the Foresters with 19 points apiece.
