Green Knights Hold 36-Hole Lead at MWC Championship

ROCKFORD, Ill. - St. Norbert College battled to a four-stroke lead after 36 holes at the 83rd Midwest Conference Championship at Aldeen Golf Club.

The first 36 holes were all played Friday after wet grounds forced cancellation of Thursday's opening round. The Green Knights fired a 308-307--615 to hold the team lead. St. Norbert holds a four-shot edge on Knox College, which fired a 311-308--619, and a five-stroke margin on Lake Forest College, which posted a 312-308--620.

Luke Bourneuf is tied for the individual lead, shooting a tournament-best 70 in the second round after opening with a 75 for a 36-hole total of 1-over par 145. Bourneuf is tied with Knox's Duncan Wheeler, who shot a 74-71--145. Bourneuf had two birdies with 16 pars during his bogey-free round of 70 and had two birdies and five bogeys in his opening round.

Eric Bagg sits in fifth place with a 76-78--154, getting birdies on two of his last three holes in the second round. Evan Van Enkevort is tied for ninth place after finishing with a 78-80--158.

Jonathan Cone had a whopping seven birdies in his first round and resides in 12th place with a 79-80--159. Jack Markham is in 18th place with an 84-79--163, while Alex Grover is tied for 19th place with an 81-84--165.

St. Norbert begins final-round play at 10:56 a.m. Saturday, with the final grouping teeing off at 11:36 a.m. The 2019 Men's Golf Championship is the final one sponsored by the Midwest Conference after the sport will no longer be sponsored for a conference championship due to lack of competing teams.
