Tarsa Powers St. Norbert at First Day of MWC Championiship

DE PERE - St. Norbert College senior Graceanne Tarsa won two Midwest Conference titles on the first day of the 2019 MWC Outdoor Track and Field Championship at Schneider Stadium.

Tarsa claimed the pole vault and 1,500-meter run to help give the Green Knights a 20-point lead after seven of 20 events. St. Norbert totaled 79 1/2 points to lead Monmouth College's 59 1/2 points. Grinnell College is a distant third at 36 1/4 points.

Tarsa won her third MWC outdoor pole vault championship with a height of 11 feet 1 3/4 inches. She later turned in a time of 4:50.55 to win the 1,500-meter runs.

Gretchen Price won the Green Knights' third individual championship with a solid win of over 30 second in the 10,000-meter run, finishing with a time of 39:05.17.

St. Norbert finished with two second-place finishes. Kelley Gardipee was second in the 1,500-meter run in 4:50.93, while Sara DeGroot was second in the pole vault at 11-1 3/4. Also earning medalist honors was Kirsten Carrigan's third-place showing in the pole vault at 10-10.

Savanna Smith finished fourth in the hammer throw at 142-7. Joyana Tarsa placed fourth in the 1,500-meter run in 4:53.27, while Clara Yoap was fourth in the 10,000-meter run in 40:03.58.

Alex Bruley was fifth in the 1,500-meter run in 4:55.08, while Haley Winzenried took sixth in the high jump at 4-11. Lauren Rottier was seventh in the high jump at 4-9, with Katherine Wanie finishing seventh in the long jump at 16-10 3/4 and Kristina Herman seventh in the discus at 119-7.
