Records Tumble as St. Norbert Opens Season

DE PERE - St. Norbert College had a strong start to its 2019-20 season with an impressive showing in a 145-55 dual-meet win over Macalester College at Mulva Pool.

The Green Knights set three school records and six pool record in the win.

A pair of freshmen set new school marks, with Wayne King setting a new mark in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:21.47. Killian Riley finished the 200-yard freestyle in 1:47.09 for another new St. Norbert standard. Ben Stolberg, King, Matt Trotter and Jason Hunt finished the 400-yard medley in 3:42.40 for the final reset record.

The Green Knights' other relay set a pool record, with Stolberg, Peter Martin, Trotter and Riley turning in a time of 3:20.50 in the 400-yard freestyle.

Also setting facility records were King in the 50-yard freestyle at 21.60, just 0.01 second shy of Stolberg's school record, and Riley in the 500-yard freestyle in 4:57.60. Trotter also set a new pool record with a time of 48.80 seconds in the 100-yard freestyle.

Martin won the 1,000-yard freestyle in 10:36.48, while Alex Cervantez claimed the 200-yard individual medley in 2:13.10. Jed Galutira won the 200-yard backstroke in 2:22.42.

Sam Martin had a noteworthy runner-up finish to King in the 200 breaststroke, with his time of 2:24.10 also eclipsing the old school record.
