Green Knights Blitz Macalester - Lake Forest Awaits

ST. PAUL, Minn. - St. Norbert College scored on eight of its first nine possessions, jumping out to a 39-0 halftime lead before settling on a 49-7 win over Macalester College in a Midwest Conference North Division game at Macalester Stadium.

St. Norbert (5-2, 4-0 MWC North) will face Lake Forest College at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, at Farwell Field in Lake Forest, Ill., with the winner advancing to the MWC Championship game on November 16.

The Green Knights blocked a Macalester punt just 97 seconds into the game, setting up a David Lox 5-yard touchdown run two plays later for a quick 7-0 lead with 2:04 gone by. Danny Simon's 27-yard field goal with 2:31 left in the first quarter pushed St. Norbert ahead 10-0.

St. Norbert scored 29 second-quarter points to pull away. Simon added a 22-yard field goal 39 seconds into the period. St. Norbert then got a 26-yard touchdown run from Nate Ihlenfeldt with 11:06 left in the second quarter. Following a Macalester fumble, Matt Galanopoulos scored on a 3-yard run with 9:14 remaining. A possession later, Charlie Hietpas would score from five yards out for a 32-0 lead with 4:13 left in the half. Another short punt by Macalester set the Green Knights up again, with Ihlenfeldt ripping off a 49-yard touchdown run with 2:01 left for a 39-0 lead.

The Green Knights would score on their first second-half series on a 24-yard touchdown from Gage McClanahan to Samuel Staehling. Following a long Macalester drive stopped inside the St. Norbert 10, the Green Knights fumbled with Macaelster's Daniel Wellman recovering in the end zone for a touchdown. Danny Simon's 27-yard field goal with 15 seconds left in the third quarter closed out the scoring.

St. Norbert outgained Macalester 380-162, inclduing by a 293-9 margin on the ground. Ihlenfeldt paced St. Norbert with 161 yards on 15 carries with two touchdowns. McClanahan completed 5 of 8 passes for 76 yards and a score, while Staehling caught three passes for 52 yards and one touchdown.

Maccabee Barrett finished with a team-high seven tackles. Mitch McCabe had 2 1/2 tackles-for-loss and 1 1/2 quarterback sacks. Jerome Tillis also had a full sack for the St. Norbert defense.
