Late Rally Not Enough for St. Norbert

DE PERE - St. Norbert College mounted a furious third-period rally from a four-goal deficit but came up short in a 4-3 loss to Lake Forest College in a Northern Collegiate Hockey Association game at Cornerstone Community Center.

Lake Forest, which won the series opener Friday 1-0, led 1-0 after one period after Aaron O'Neill scored a power-play goal just 2 minutes into the game. The Foresters would extend their lead with a goal by Jack Clark at 7:43 of the second period, a power-play goal by David Cohen at 17:18 and another power-play marker by Zach Feldman at 19:10.

St. Norbert would get on the board when Peter Bates scored an unassisted goal at 4:02 of the third period. The Green Knights cut into the deficit with a Kurt Black goal off Jack Thomas and Bates assists at 7:07. Brendan Mark scored his first collegiate goal at 16:16 off helpers from Michael Spethmann and Michael McChesney to bring St. Norbert to within one at 4-3.

St. Norbert killed off a penalty that expired with 1:19 remaining. The Green Knights had 1:04 of extra-attacker time but couldn't force overtime.

The Green Knights outshot the Foresters 32-30. Boyd DiClemente had 29 saves for Lake Forest, while Ryan Bontorin made 26 stops for the Green Knights.

Lake Forest was 3-for-7 on the power play, while St. Norbert was 0-for-3.
