MONMOUTH, Ill. - St. Norbert College turned in a season-best defensive performance as the Green Knights rolled to a 66-44 win over Monmouth College in a Midwest Conference game at Glennie Gym.

The Green Knights (8-2, 3-0 MWC) won for the eighth consecutive game as they held their third straight opponent to 53 points or less. St. Norbert yielding just 44 points to Monmouth topped its best mark of the season, besting a 76-46 win over UW-Superior on Dec. 29.

St. Norbert fell behind early as the Fighting Scots took a 6-1 lead just over two minutes into the game. The Green Knights responded with a 13-2 run to take control, with Connor Curtis scoring nine of the points during that stretch. Curtis had a conventional three-point play with 13:38 left in the half to put St. Norbert ahead 10-8, a lead it would not relinquish.

Monmouth (6-4, 1-2) cut its deficit to four points on three occasions, the last at 27-23 with 1:53 left in the half. St. Norbert then scored the last seven points of the half, getting a hoop and 3-pointer from Jared Murphy and a pair of free throws by Curtis for a 34-23 halftime lead.

The Green Knights held a 36-26 lead with 19:08 left to play after Monmouth's Tyler Houston canned a 3-pointer, but St. Norbert would score the game's next 11 points to effectively decide the outcome. Curtis started the run with a 3-pointer and then added a breakaway dunk. Jacob Bolwerk then drained a pair of 3-pointers for a 47-26 lead with 15:07 to play, forcing Monmouth to ask for time for the second time in the half.

Monmouth would get no closer than 17 points the rest of the way.

St. Norbert shot 49.1 percent (27-for-55) from the floor. Curtis and Murphy led the Green Knights with 18 points apiece, while Bolwerk added 13 points and eight rebounds.

Monmouth shot 35.6 percent (16-for-45) from the field, including a 6-for-23 (26.1 percent) showing in the second half. No Monmouth player reached double figures, with Justin Batterton finishing with a team-high nine points.
