Green Knights Pick Up Pair of Wins

HILTON HEAD, S.C. - St. Norbert College improved to 10-8 this season with a pair of men's tennis dual-meet wins over Greenville College 8-1 and Spring Arbor University 6-3.

St. Norbert got off to a strong start in both matches by sweeping the doubles action. The No. 1 tandem of Jordan Bauer and Mike Hyrczyk beat Greenville's Joe Newlin and Taylor Dunningham 9-7 before topping Spring Arbor's David Cavender and Matt DeRose 8-3. Nate Tackaberry and Derek Harrington swept at No. 2 doubles, beating Greenville's Ian Wolf and Jesse Shaw 8-5 before besting Chris Swank and Patrick McIlrath of Spring Arbor 8-5. Eric Koppmann and Matt Schmitz picked up a pair of convincing wins at No. 3, beating Greenville's Brent Wiedman and Todd Ganton 8-1 and Spring Arbor's Tim Smolen and Dustin Robinson 8-2.

Schmitz improved to 10-4 in singles action with a pair of wins at No. 6 singles. He beat Ganton 6-1, 6-0 before blanking Robinson 6-0, 6-0. Harrington moved to 9-9 this year with a 6-2, 3-6, 10-3 win over Newlin at No. 2, followed by a three-set win over DeRose 6-0, 1-6, 10-3. Ethan Kadow topped Wiedman at No. 5 singles against Greenville 6-0, 6-2, while Bauer beat Ian Wolf 6-2, 6-1.

St. Norbert will round out its spring trip to Hilton Head with a match against Messiah College on Thursday.
