GENEVA, Ill. - St. Norbert College and Aurora University opened its two-game Northern Collegiate Hockey Association series with a 3-3 overtime tie at Fox Valley Ice Arena.

St. Norbert held a 2-0 lead before the Spartans scored three straight goals. The Green Knights got the lone third-period marker to gain the tie.

Peyton Frantti got the scoring started with a goal at 7:17 of the first period, getting assists from Peter Bates and Kurt Black. That marker held up until Frantti scored again, this time off a helper from goaltender Colby Entz, at 3:19 of the second period.

Aurora answered with a power-play goal from Riley Doyon at 6:22 of the second period to cut the deficit in half. The Green Knights appeared poised to retake control when they went on a five-minute major power play at 13:28, but the Spartans' Adam Keyes scored shorthanded at 14:05 to tie the game. Aurora then took a 3-2 lead on another Keyes goal 25 seconds after the Green Knights' power play expired.

St. Norbert tied the game at 4:39 of the third period when Ben Schmidling scored off a feed from Max Brainin.

St. Norbert outshot Aurora 44-24, including 15-5 in the third period and 5-1 in overtime. Colby Entz made 21 saves for the Green Knights, while Josh Boyko made 41 stops for the Spartans.

The Green Knights were 0-for-5 on the power play, while Aurora was 1-for-4.
