BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - St. Norbert College sophomore Jaxsen Schermacher shattered the previous school record in the indoor pole vault by nearly 10 inches as the Green Knights competed at the Emory University Crossplex Showdown at Birmingham Crossplex.

Schermacher unleashed a vault of 15 feet 5 inches to finish second, smashing the old mark held by his older brother Max, who set the previous standard of 14-7 1/4 last season. Max Schermacher finished in fifth place with a height of 14-5 1/4, just two inches off his career best.

The performances helped lead St. Norbert to a tie for sixth place out of 14 teams, most of which are NCAA Division II or NAIA institutions. The Green Knights totaled 38 points. The University of Alabama-Huntsville totaled 146 points, while Lee (Tenn.) University was second with 114 points.

Oren Kestell finished second in the high jump with a leap of 6-43/4, while Robby Cicciarelli was fourth with a height of 6-0 3/4. Sam Stelloh also had a second-place finish, coming in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.48 seconds.

Eric Herman finished seventh in the weight throw with a toss of 43-7. Karter Decker was eighth in the triple jump with a distance of 42-9 3/4. The 4x400-meter run quartet of Samuel Fletcher, Daniel Fenn, Robert Tetzlaff and Gregory Bernasek was eighth in 3:31.38.
