St. Norbert Pulls Away In Rout Of Grinnell

DE PERE - St. Norbert College scored 63 second-half points to pull away in a convincing 109-79 decision over Grinnell College in a Midwest Conference game at Mulva Family Fitness & Sports Center.

The Green Knights (15-3, 10-1 MWC) held a 46-31 halftime lead, but connected on 24 of 33 field-goal attempts in the second half to outscore the Pioneers (10-8, 6-5) 63-48 in the final 20 minutes of action.

St. Norbert trailed on just two occasions - by one point both times in the game's opening moments. The Green Knights led 14-12 just over six minutes into the game before embarking on a 10-2 run to take a 24-14 lead with 9:46 left in the half, capped by Nolan Beirne's conventional three-point play. The Green Knights would lead by 16 points late in the half after a Beirne layup with 1:23 to go before settling on a 46-31 halftime lead.

The Green Knights never trailed by less than 13 points in the second half. St. Norbert took its first lead of over 20 points on a Jack Pettit layup for a 65-44 edge with 14:02 to go. Grinnell would can consecutive 3-pointers to get to within 65-50 with 13:33 remaining, but Jared Murphy scored St. Norbert's next seven points for a 72-54 lead with 12:03 left.

Grinnell trailed 79-62 with 9:13 left but the Green Knights would score the next eight points to take the mystery out of the result

St. Norbert shot 57.1 percent (44-for-77) from the floor for the game. Beirne registered career-highs with 32 points and 13 rebounds. Connor Curtis flirted with a triple double by totaling 23 points, eight rebounds and seven assists. Murphy had 19 points and Joe Ciriacks 11 points.

Grinnell shot 36 percent (27-for-75) and was just 12-for-47 (25.5 percent) from beyond the three-point arc. Aiden Gilbert had a team-high 24 points, while Hannes Kogelnik added 15 points.
