St. Norbert Clinches MWC Tournament Berth

GREEN BAY - St. Norbert College wrapped up a berth in the Midwest Conference Women's Tennis Team Championship Tournament with a 7-2 win over Lawrence University at Western Racquet.

The Green Knights, 6-7 overall and 3-1 in the MWC North Division, will face South Division champion Grinnell on Friday, Oct. 16 in Rockford, Ill., in a tournament semifinal.

St. Norbert jumped out to a 3-0 lead against Lawrence by sweeping all three doubles points. Lauren Post and Kelly Van Handel topped Elizabeth Larson and Jennifer Roesch 8-6 at No. 1. Allyson Yankle and Erin Riutta beat Elizabeth Byers and Katherine Valde 8-4 at No. 2, while Maria Slusarek and Kristyn Klind topped Anica Cihla and Katie Schuld by an 8-4 score at No. 3.

Van Handel topped Roesch 6-1, 7-5 to earn a win at No. 2 singles, while Yankle bested Valde 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3. Slusarek defeated Cihla 6-2, 6-2 at No. 5, and Callie Schroeder beat Rana Marks 6-3, 6-0 at No. 6.
