Carroll Tops St. Norbert for MWC Crown

DE PERE - Carroll University topped St. Norbert College by a 3-0 score to settle the battle for the 2009 Midwest Conference women's soccer title at the Minahan Stadium Complex.

Carroll is 15-1-1 overall and won the MWC title with a 9-0 record. The Green Knights fell to 10-8, 7-2.

Carroll wasted little time to jump ahead with a Cody Callender goal 7 minutes 36 seconds into the match. The Pioneers added a score by Liz Melcher at 29:12 for a 2-0 lead. Carroll would close out its scoring at the 50:03 mark, when Kendell Uttech found the back of the net for the Pioneers.

St. Norbert outshot Carroll 16-12 and held a 6-3 corner kicks advantage. Carroll's Ashlee Reinke made eight saves, while St. Norbert's Cara Tazioli made seven saves.

St. Norbert will face Lake Forest College in the semifinals of the Midwest Conference Tournament Friday at Carroll University's Schneider Stadium.
