Salem State Blanks St. Norbert

DULUTH, Minn. - St. Norbert College was dealt its first loss of the 2009-10 season with a 3-0 shutout setback at the hands of Salem State College on the second day of the Western Thanksgiving Showcase at Mars Lakeview Arena.

The Green Knights, ranked No. 1 in the USCHO.com Division III Poll, fell to 9-1-1. Salem State, which lost 4-3 in overtime to St. Scholastica the previous night, improved to 4-1.

St. Norbert could not solve Salem State goaltender James LaCour, who turned in a brilliant 31-save performance. LaCour made nine saves in the first period, 16 saves in the second and six stops in the third.

Salem State scored 1 minute 45 seconds into the second period on Nick Lampson's third goal of the season. The Green Knights had a great opportunity to draw even with a five-minute major power play that spanned the second and third periods, but couldn't score.

St. Norbert had a two-minute power play go scoreless later int he third period and the Vikings' Chris MacInnis made the score 2-0 at the 10:20 mark. Salem State's Jeff Tellier scored an unassisted marker at 16:27 to round out the scoring.

Salem State held a 35-31 shots-on-goal advantage. The Green Knights were 0-for-4 on the power play, while Salem State was 0-for-3. Blake Bashor made 32 saves for St. Norbert in his first start of the season.
