St. Norbert Falls Short at Lake Forest

LAKE FOREST, Ill. - Lisa Nassin's two free throws with 6.8 seconds left proved to be the difference as Lake Forest College tipped St. Norbert College 68-67 in a Midwest Conference opener at the LFC Sports Center.

The two archrivals battled down to the wire in a game where neither team led by more than three points in the game's final minutes. St. Norbert, ranked No. 20 by D3hoops.com, fell to 4-1 overall. The Foresters improved to 4-2.

Rachel Hermus' jumper with 5 minutes 20 seconds left tied the game at 63-63, but the Green Knights would score just four points the rest of the way. Tatiana Moore and Kate Grunauer each made 1 of 2 free throws to give Lake Forest a 65-63 lead with 2:31 left. St. Norbert's Jamie Kuhl canned a jumper with 2:06 left, and neither team would score until the final 30 seconds. Nassin made 1 of 2 free throws with 25 seconds left, and Hermus answered with a hoop with 12 seconds left for a 67-66 St. Norbert lead.

St. Norbert led by as much as 13 points in the first half and held a 33-22 lead with 3:02 left in the first half. The Foresters closed the first half on a 10-3 run to trail 36-32 at halftime.

Denise Heuser led St. Norbert with 16 points, while Hermus and Emily Otzelberger each had 12 points and Erin Baganz added 11. St. Norbert shot 40.4 percent (23-for-47) from the floor and was 4-for-17 (23.5 percent) on 3-pointers. The Green Knights were also 17-for-24 (70.8 percent) at the free-throw line.

Nassin led Lake Forest with 21 points and 12 rebounds, and Grunauer added 14 points. The Foresters shot 45.6 percent (26-for-57) from the floor.
