Green Knights Open Season With Split of Dual Meets

JACKSON - St. Norbert College opened the 2010 men's tennis season with a split of dual meets against Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference foes at the Pleasant Valley Tennis Club. The Green Knights topped Wartburg College 6-3 before falling to the University of Dubuque 6-3.

St. Norbert won four of the six singles matches. Eric Koppmann claimed a win at No. 3 with a 6-4, 2-6, 10-8 win over Andrew Kahler. Mike Hryczyk beat Brian Rasmussen 6-3, 6-4 at No. 4, while Nate Tackaberry beat Aaron Masterson 6-2, 6-0 at No. 5. Ethan Kadow followed at No. 6 with a 6-0, 6-4 win over Blane Willadsen.

In doubles action, Koppmann and Derek Harrington beat Wartburg's Kahlker and Rasmussen 8-3 at No. 2. In the No. 3 match, Tackaberry and Nick Acosta beat Masterson and Walker Wilson 8-1.

St. Norbert (1-1) narrowly lost to unbeaten Dubuque (5-0), dropping three three-set matches at Nos. 2, 4 and 6 singles. Koppmann topped Jon Kroll 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3 singles, while Tackaberry beat Demetrius Johnson 6-4, 6-4 at No. 5. Harrington and Acosta beat Claudrio Giraldi and Johnson 8-5 at No. 2 doubles.
