St. Norbert Salvages Split With Monmouth

DE PERE - St. Norbert College ended its season with a split of a Midwest Conference doubleheader against Monmouth College at Miron Construction Field. The Green Knights dropped the opener 5-2 before taking the nightcap 8-2.

The Green Knights (11-21, 7-11 MWC) used a big inning to take control in the second game.

Monmouth scored an unearned run in the first inning before St. Norbert answered with five runs in the bottom of the second inning. Alyssa Sikora had an RBI double, while Brianna Braeger cleared the bases later in the frame with a three-run triple. Randi Morack then had a run-scoring double for a 5-1 edge.

The Fighting Scots got a run back in the third inning before St. Norbert countered with a run-scoring groundout from Kelsey Berna in its half of the frame. The Green Knights closed out the scoring with a two-run double from Leigh Grall in the sixth inning.

Ellie Olsen allowed four hits with three walks and six strikeouts in twirling a complete-game victory. Braeger was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBI, while Whitney Baumann was 2-for-3 with a run scored.

In the opener, St. Norbert took a 2-0 lead in the second inning on a two-run single by Braeger. Monmouth would get a run in the third inning and complete the rally with a three-run sixth inning and an insurance run in the seventh inning.

Braeger was 2-for-4 with two RBI for the Green Knights, who had five hits. Emma Molenhouse allowed eight hits and one earned run in seven innings, walking one.
