DE PERE - St. Norbert College has named B.J. Bryant as its head men's volleyball coach when the program begins in the 2019-20 academic year, athletics director Tim Bald announced.

Bryant, who has been the St. Norbert women's volleyball coach the past three seasons on a part-time basis, will retain those duties and become a full-time staff member for the 2018-19 academic year.

"We are very happy B.J. has agreed to become the men's volleyball coach at St. Norbert," Bald said. "We know the coaching skills and abilities he has displayed over the past three years with our women's program and believe he will bring the same to our men's program. We are excited about this new program offer and look forward to him leading the program."

Bryant has led the St. Norbert women's program to 24-4 regular-season record in Midwest Conference competition in his three seasons with the Green Knights. He piloted the Green Knights into the 2016 NCAA Division III Tournament after capturing the MWC Tournament title. Bryant's teams have also handed Cornell College its only two Midwest Conference losses since the Rams returned to the league six seasons ago.

"The opportunity to move into a full-time position at St. Norbert is an incredible opportunity for me and the two programs I have been put in charge of," Bryant said. "Being able to build the foundation for a brand new men's volleyball program is a huge task and one I am very excited to get started on. Men's volleyball is a fast-paced, physical game that will certainly become a spectator favorite when we hit the court in 2020. I can't wait to begin finding future Green Knights to help build our program and add to the already storied tradition of St. Norbert athletic teams."

Bryant was also involved with the USA Volleyball Badger Region High Performance program from 2008 to 2016. An assistant coach from 2008 to 2011 and the head coach since 2012, he aided teams to a USA Volleyball HP Championships bronze medals in 2016, 2015, and 2009, as well as a silver medal in 2010.

Bryant served as an elected member of the Badger Region Volleyball Board of Directors from 2011 to 2017 serving on the executive board as the region secretary.

The St. Norbert men's volleyball program will be an associate member of the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference, which consists of 12 colleges and universities in Wisconsin and Illinois. Aurora University, Benedictine University, Concordia University Wisconsin, Dominican University, Lakeland University, Marian University and Milwaukee School of Engineering competed for the NACC men's volleyball championship this spring. Illinois Institute of Technology is joining the NACC in 2018-19, while Concordia University Chicago will also add men's volleyball next year.
