St. Norbert Claims Pair of MWC Consolation Doubles Titles

MADISON - St. Norbert College got a pair of consolation championships at the Midwest Conference Doubles Championship held at Nielsen Tennis Stadium.
The Green Knights got consolation crowns from Sofie Koppmann and Hannah Swajanen at No. 2 and Erin Vits and Nicole Pfotenhauer at No. 3.
Koppmann and Swajanen opened with a tough 9-8 setback in their quarterfinal match to Monmouth College's Rachel Leifheit and Natalie Curtis. The tandem bounced back to top Ripon College's Samantha Kiesner and Morgan Makar 8-3 in a consolation semifinal. The pair topped Beloit College's Emma Hahn and Bailey Ekstrand 8-1 in the consolation championship.
Vits and Pfotenhauer fell 8-5 to Lawrence University's El Goblirsch and Morgan Fisher in their quarterfinal. They came back to blank Knox College's Jamahra Richardson and Abby Ball 8-0 in the consolation semifinal and Ripon's MacKenzie Warner and Carly Wesner 8-1 in the consolation championship.
The No. 1 pairing of Meg Witt and Claire Hetzel won their quarterfinal match by defeating Ripon's Brianna Bembenek and Hannah Ryaback 8-6. The duo then lost 8-1 in their semifinal match to Lake Forest College's Julie Lord and Leeza Bodnar.
The MWC Singles Championship is Sunday at Nielsen Tennis Stadium.
