Green Knights Have Six Reach MWC Singles Semifinals

MADISON - St. Norbert College had all six of its players reach the semifinal round at the Midwest Conference Singles Championships at Nielsen Tennis Stadium.

The Green Knights did not advance anyone to a championship match in a flight, with four of the six bowing out in the semifinals to eventual conference champions.

Meg Witt opened play at No. 1 with a 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 win over Ripon College's Brianna Bembenek in the quarterfinals. She followed with a 6-1, 6-0 loss to Grinnell College's Abby Nielsen in the semifinals.

Claire Hetzel topped Illinois College's Sally Hixson 6-0, 6-1 in a No. 2 quarterfinal. Hetzel then fell 6-2, 6-2 to Lake Forest College's Allison Watts in her semifinal.

Sofie Koppmann bested Ripon's Samantha Kiesner 6-1, 6-4 in a quarterfinal at No. 3. She then dropped a 6-1, 6-3 decision to Grinnell's Isabel Green in the a semifinal match.

Hannah Swajanen claimed a 6-0, 6-1 win over Beloit College's Emma Hahn in a No. 4 quarterfinal before succumbing in a 6-2, 6-3 semifinal loss to Grinnell's Lily Hamilton.

Nicole Pfotenhauer defeated Ripon's MacKenzie Warner 6-2, 6-2 to win her quarterfinal at No. 5. Lake Forest's Tyranny Miller eliminated Pfotenhauer with a 7-5, 6-1 semifinal win.

Hannah Keller outlasted Ripon's Katelyn Peroutka 5-7, 6-2, 6-2 for a win in her No. 6 quarterfinal. Keller then fell 6-4, 6-3, to Lake Forest's Katie Wegrocki in the semifinal round.
