St. Norbert Shuts Down Lake Forest

LAKE FOREST, Ill. - St. Norbert College held its second consecutive opponent to under 30 percent shooting from the floor and posted a key 57-47 Midwest Conference win over Lake Forest College at the LFC Sports Center.

The Green Knights (4-2, 3-0 MWC), who held Knox College to 29.2 percent shooting in an 84-42 win on Saturday, kept the Foresters to shooting 29.6 percent from the field. Lake Forest made just 16 of 54 field-goal attempts, including 8-for-31 (25.8 percent) from beyond the three-point arc.

St. Norbert held the lead for the entire game except for a 9-9 tie just over seven minutes into the contest. The Green Knights held a couple of three-point leads later in the first half before the Foresters trimmed their deficit to 22-20 with 3:07 left. St. Norbert closed out the first half with a 6-0 finishing kick, with a pair of Joe Lemon hoops sandwiched around two Joe Ciriacks free throws to take a 28-20 lead into halftime.

The Foresters got to within 30-29 just four minutes into the second half before St. Norbert went on a 14-2 run to take a 44-31 lead with 10:31 remaining. A pair of 3-pointers by Lemon and Connor Curtis got the run started, while Jared Murphy had the last two baskets of the spurt.

Lake Forest got back to within six points at 46-40 with 6:12 to go, but St. Norbert scored the next six points on a conventional three-point play by Lemon and a 3-pointer by Murphy. The Foresters got to within seven at 54-47 with 2:44 to go, but would not score again.

St. Norbert shot 38.5 percent (20-for-52) from the floor and held a 41-33 rebounding advantage. Lemon finished with 16 points and tied a career-high with 15 rebounds. Murphy added 13 points off the bench.

The Foresters converted just 16 of 54 field-goal attempts. Sean Espinosa had 17 points to lead Lake Forest, while Tashon Brown added 11 points.
