Green Knights Drop Regular-Season Finale at Monmouth

MONMOUTH, Ill. - St. Norbert College couldn't slow down Monmouth College in the second half and dropped a 74-63 decision in a regular-season finale and Midwest Conference contest at Glennie Gym.

St. Norbert (18-7, 16-2 MWC) will now host Monmouth (13-12, 11-7) at 7 p.m. Friday in a MWC Tournament semifinal game in De Pere. Grinnell College and Lake Forest College meet in first semifinal at 5 p.m. Friday. The tournament championship is slated for 3 p.m. Saturday.

The Green Knights led by as many as eight points in the first half at 27-19 with 6:02 left before settling on a 32-30 halftime lead. Monmouth made a run early, taking a 41-36 lead with 14:32 left. The lead would then change 11 times, with St. Norbert last leading at 51-49 with 8:17 to play on a Jacob Bolwerk jumper.

Monmouth would go on an 12-2 run on over the next 2 1/2 minutes to take a 61-53 edge and the Green Knights would get no closer than five points the rest of the way.

St. Norbert shot 37.7 percent (23-for-61) from the floor and was 8-for-29 (27.6 percent) from distance. Jared Murphy led the Green Knights with 16 points, while Joe Ciriacks added 13 points and Joe Lemon 10 points.

Monmouth shot 41.3 percent (26-for-63) from the field. Will Carius had 25 points and D.J. Swift 23 points for the Scots.
