St. Norbert Opens MWC Action With Split

MOUNT VERNON, Iowa - St. Norbert College opened Midwest Conference play with a split of dual matches, defeating Cornell College 8-1 before losing to Grinnell College 9-0.

St. Norbert swept the three doubles matches against the Rams, with Lauren Paulson and Julia Slusarek topping Abbey Nelson and Emmaline Fievet 9-7 at No. 1. Hannah Keller and Hannah Swajenen defeated Megan Pope and Regina Bermudez-Smith 8-5 at No. 2, while Bethany Zoch and Morgan Moxon bested Amanda Dragon and Natalie Brandt 8-4 at No. 3.

Paulson earned a 2-6, 6-3, 10-6 win over Nelson at No. 1 singles. Slusarek followed with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Bermudez-Smith at No. 3, while Nicole Pfotenhauer earned a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Pope at No. 4. Keller finished with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Dragon at No. 5, while Emma Merrill defeated Brandt 6-0, 6-1 at No. 6.

Merrill had a three-set loss against Grinnell, dropping a 6-1, 6-7, 10-6 decision to Josephine Blumenthal at No. 6 singles.
