200-Yard Freestyle Relay Title Leads Way On Day 1 of MWC Championship

GRINNELL, Iowa - St. Norbert College's 200-yard freestyle relay claimed the Green Knights' first Midwest Conference relay championship to lead performances on the first day of the Midwest Conference Championship at Grinnell College's Osgood Pool.

Matt Trotter, Ben Stolberg, Alex Cervantez and Wayne King teamed up to win the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:25.64. The first relay conference title in school history also set a new St. Norbert record.

Stolberg ended up finishing second in the 50-yard freestyle, posting a time of St. Norbert-record time of 21.26 seconds. King was fourth at 21:56, while Jeffrey Green tied for 10th at 22.21 seconds.

The quartet of Stolberg, King, Trotter and Killian Riley finished third in the 400-yard medley relay with a St. Norbert-record time of 3:30.75.

Riley was third in the 500-yard freestyle at a school-record 4:42.19, followed by Peter Martin in 10th place at 4:49.93 and Ray Scribano in 16th place in 5:02.49. Riley added an eighth-place finish in the 200-yard individual medley at 2:00.83, after earlier setting a St. Norbert record with a preliminary time of 1:59.15. Jared Ashburn finished 15th in the 200 IM in 2:05.48 and Cervantez was 16th in 2:06.71.

Will Bethard finished in fifth place in 1-meter diving with a score of 295.65 points.

St. Norbert sits in third place after the first day with 162.5 points. Grinnell leads with 246 points, followed by Lake Forest College's 217 points. Monmouth College is in fourth place in 107 points.
