Green Knights Crown Pair of Champions on Second Day of MWC Championship

GRINNELL, Iowa - St. Norbert College's picked up two more conference champions as the Green Knights competed on the second day of the Midwest Conference Championship at Grinnell College's Osgood Pool.

Matt Trotter picked up the conference championship in the 100-yard butterfly, while Ben Stolberg, Killian Riley, Wayne King and Jeffrey Green took home gold medals in the 200-yard medley relay.

Trotter turned in a blazing 50.11 seconds performance, setting a new St. Norbert record and just 0.14 seconds off matching the Midwest Conference record. The 200-yard medley relay turned in a school-record time of 1:35.66.

Stolberg finished second in the 100-yard backstroke, finishing with a finals time of 51.90 seconds. His preliminary time of 51.64 seconds was a new St. Norbert record. Dallas Garza Laurin was 16th in the event at 1:08.55.

Trotter, Stolberg, Peter Martin and Killian Riley were fourth in the 800-yard freestyle relay with a school-record time of 7:05.09. Riley was fourth in the 200-yard freestyle with a St. Norbert-record time of 1:43.18. Alex Cervantez was 13th in 1:50.19 and Ray Scribano 16th in 1:52.52.

King was fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke with a St. Norbert-record time of 59.06 seconds. Sam Martin was 10th in 1:03.89, Cameron Krause in 12th at 1:05.46 and Green in 14th at 1:07.94. Will Bethard was fifth in 3-meter diving with a score of 258.20.

Peter Martin was ninth in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:21.19, with Jared Ashburn in 12th place at 4:36.73 and Peader McGrath in 16th place at 4:50.46. Jason Hunt was 10th in the 100-yard butterfly in 54.59 seconds, while Scott Grodecki was 11th in 55.22 seconds and Riley Engelbert 13th in 55.74 seconds.

After the second day of competition, St. Norbert is third in the team standings with 366.5 points. Grinnell College is first with 616.5 points, while Lake Forest College is second with 461 points. Monmouth College is in fourth place with 248.5 points.
