Green Knights Build Lead on First Day of MWC Indoor Championship

GRINNELL, Iowa - St. Norbert College registered several strong performances on the first day of the Midwest Conference Indoor Track & Field Championship at Grinnell College's Bear Athletic Center.

The Green Knights piled up 69 points through the first seven events completed on the first day out of a total of 18. Monmouth College is in second place with 48 points, while Grinnell College is third with 43 points.

St. Norbert had three conference champions on the day. Joyana Tarsa won the conference title in the 1-mile run with a time of 5:10.22, while Sara DeGroot won the pole vault with a height of 11 feet 1 inch. The 1,600-meter sprint medley of Maddie LeBrun, Daijah Brown, Brianne Barta and Claire VanBeek also took home gold by finishing in a time of 4:20.55.

The 4x200-meter relay of LeBrun, Brown, Emelia Lichty and Katherine Wanie was second with a time of 1:45.76. Kirsten Carrigan finished in a tie for second place in the pole vault, also finishing with a height of 11-1.

Kelley Gardipee finished in third place in the 1-mile run in 5:22.16, while Alex Bruley was seventh in 5:35.24. Wanie was third in the long jump at 17-10 3/4, followed by Audrey Makope in seventh at 17-2.

Emma Sweere finished in fourth place in the shot put at 41-6 1/2, while Hayley Winzenried picked up two big points by finishing in seventh place with a season-best put of 39-5 1/4. Carolyn Neerdaels finished in eighth place in the 5,000-meter run in 19:11.51.
