ADRIAN, Mich. - St. Norbert College gave regular-season champion Adrian College all it could handle in a 3-1 loss in the first game of a Northern Collegiate Hockey Association Slaats Cup Playoffs Quarterfinal Series at Arrington Ice Arena.

The Green Knights were deadlocked with the Bulldogs 1-1 after two periods before Adrian scored twice in the first 4:22 of the third period to pull away. St. Norbert must now win the second game of the series Saturday plus a decisive 20-minute mini-game to advance to the NCHA's Final Three.

St. Norbert took the lead when Katie Trudeau scored just 35 seconds into the second period off assists from Libbie Doney and Lisa Lenell. That goal would hold up until Adrian's Rylee Bates scored at 7:26 of the period to level the score at 1-1.

Adrian got the eventual game-winning goal from Abbie Grias at 1:54 of the third period, while Maggie Mitter scored at 4:22 for a two-goal lead.

Adrian outshot St. Norbert 26-19. Anais Aurard made 23 saves for the Green Knights, while Denisa Jandova made 18 stops for the Bulldogs.

Both teams were 0-for-2 on the power play.
